Woman arrested on fraud charge

A local business called officers about a woman who made several purchases with several fraudulent credit cards, Morgan City Police Chief James F. Blair said in a news release.
—Lajohnda Grogan, 26, of Robin Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:04 p.m. Tuesday on charges of theft under $1,000 and credit card fraud.
Officers were called to a local business on La. 182 to investigate a theft complaint. When officers arrived, they learned Grogan had made several purchases in the store in the amount of $313.47 with several fraudulent credit cards. Officers were able to locate and arrest Grogan at the business. She was jailed.
Blair also reported that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 42 calls of service and the following arrest was made:
—Eric Thomas Gaskins, 39, of Friendship Alley in Amelia was arrested at 3:19 p.m. Tuesday on warrants for three counts of failure to appear and a warrant for the charges of battery of a dating partner. Gaskins was placed under arrest in City Court of Morgan City on active warrants held by City Court. A warrants check revealed St. Mary Sheriff’s Office held an active warrant for his arrest. He was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith advised that the Sheriff’s Office responded to 29 complaints and reported the following arrests:
—Raeann Lawrence Johnson, 38, of Mixon Street in New Iberia, was arrested at 5:58 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of theft. A transportation deputy made contact with Johnson when she transported her to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center from another agency. She was jailed and bail was set at $5,000.
—Jimmy Rene Billiot Jr., 22, of La. 83 in Franklin, was arrested at 5:59 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of reckless operation no accident and criminal trespass. A transportation deputy made contact with Billiot when she transported him to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center from another agency. He was jailed and bail was set at $1,500.
—Drake Paul Segura, 22, of Inez Drive in Sorrell, was arrested at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday on two Iberia Parish warrants for failure to appear on the charges of angling without a license, burglary, and simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling.
Deputies assisted detectives from the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office in locating Segura at a residence on Inez Drive in Jeanerette. Segura was located and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. He was jailed and is being held for another agency.
Berwick Police Chief David Leonard Sr. reported there were no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Garrett Grogan reported there were no arrests.
