Heroin, meth charges follow traffic stop

Detectives patrolling the Franklin-Garden City area made a traffic stop that led an arrest on heroin charges, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith said.
—Tyler Slate Hebert, 29, of Sydney Jo Lane in Berwick, was arrested on Friday at 2:55 a.m. for charges of improper lane use, obstruction of justice, possession of Schedule II controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine) with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance (heroin) with intent to distribute, possession of legend drug without prescription (pantoprazole) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Detectives with the Saint Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Section were patrolling the area of Franklin-Garden City when they observed a vehicle cross over the fog line on U.S. 90 near Garden City. The detectives conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Hebert. During the stop, drugs were found, Smith said. He was jailed.
Smith also advised that the Sheriff’s Office responded to 94 complaints and the following arrests were made:
—Luis Fernando-Ponce, 22, of Westside Park Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 9:30 p.m. Friday on charges of sexual battery and indecent behavior with a juvenile. An investigation was initiated into a complaint of a molestation of a juvenile. During the investigation, Ponce was developed as the suspect and a warrant was obtained for his arrest. He was jailed with bail set at $20,000.

—Skyler Craig Gibson, 25, of Bayou Black Drive in Gibson, was arrested at 5:02 p.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of failure to use safety belt, hit and run, and careless operation. A deputy assisting with an unrelated complaint in Bayou Vista made contact with Gibson and was advised by dispatch that he held an active warrant for his arrest. He was jailed with no bail set.
—Joann Mitchell, 59, of Jimmy’s Trailer Park in Gibson, was arrested at 9:15 p.m. Friday on charges of turning movements/required signals, driving under suspension and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A deputy was patrolling the area of Saturn Road near Mercury Road in Bayou Vista when he observed a vehicle fail to signal before turning. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Mitchell. The deputy was advised by dispatch that Mitchell was driving with a suspended driver’s license and drug paraphernalia was found. She was arrested and released on a summons to appear in court on Dec. 2.
—Tyresha R. Dugar, 28 of Martin Luther King Avenue B in Patterson, was arrested at 1:14 a.m. Saturday on charges of no headlights, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of marijuana.
A deputy was patrolling the area of U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista when he observed a vehicle with an inoperable headlight. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Dugar. Drugs and drug paraphernalia were located. She was jailed with no bail set.
—Aketa Raquel Francis, 27, of Eight Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:16 p.m. Saturday on a charge of simple battery. A deputy was dispatched to Cane Road in Bayou Vista in reference to a disturbance. The deputy made contact with the complainant who stated Francis committed a battery. She was jailed with bail set at $2,500.
—Wilbur James Richard Jr., 35, of Jupiter Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 8:14 p.m. Saturday on charges of resisting arrest or officer and a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of possession of alprazolam, Deca Durabolin, Testosterone, drug paraphernalia, and marijuana. A deputy responded to a complaint on Jupiter Street in Bayou Vista. During the investigation, Richard was developed as a person of interest. Dispatch advised that Richard held an active warrant for his arrest. A short time later the deputy made contact with Richard, who began to flee on foot. He was jailed with no bail set.
—Tyler Anthony Palmature, 22, of Neptune Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 4:15 a.m. Saturday on charges of license plate required, switched license plate/stolen license plate, driving under suspension, possession of a Schedule IV controlled dangerous substance (Klonopin), possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A deputy was patrolling the area of Belleview Street near Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista when he observed a vehicle with an inoperable license plate light. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Palmature. The deputy learned through dispatch that Palmature was driving with a suspended license. Drugs and drug paraphernalia were located inside the vehicle. He was jailed with no bail set.
—Timothy Terrell Humphrey Jr., 31, of Village Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 10:23 a.m. Sunday on charges of possession of cocaine, possession of a legend drug without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia, simple burglary, simple criminal damage to property and remaining on property without permission.
—Leeann Nicole Jones, 33, of Jupiter Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:23 a.m. Sunday on charges of simple burglary.
A deputy was dispatched to a residence on Mars Road in Bayou Vista in reference to a residential burglary complaint. The deputy made contact with the complainant who stated that someone had broken into her home. During the investigation, Humphrey and Jones were developed as suspects. Deputies made contact with Humphrey and Jones walking on Mars Road. Drugs and drug paraphernalia were found in Humphrey’s possession. Both were jailed with no bail set.
—Shaqunia Marie Harris, 25, of Arizona Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:08 a.m. Sunday on charges of resisting arrest or officer, resisting an officer by giving false information, and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of failure to yield to emergency vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia. A deputy was dispatched to a residence on Joseph Street in reference to a disturbance to assist a Morgan City Police officer. The deputy made contact with Harris, who held an active warrant for her arrest. She was jailed with no bail set.
—Sherkera Monique Sylvester, 39, of Short Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:32 p.m. Sunday on charges of resisting arrest or officer and on a Lafourche Parish warrant for failure to appear.
—Roger Bernnorh Short Sr., 33, of Mary Street in Gibson, was arrested at 8:32 p.m. Sunday on charges of resisting arrest or officer, interfering with a law enforcement investigation and battery on a police officer.
Deputies were patrolling U.S. 90 near Morgan City when they observed a vehicle fail to signal a lane change and follow too closely to another vehicle. The deputies conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver and two passengers, identified as Sylvester and Short. Through the stop, the deputies were advised by dispatch that Sylvester held an active warrant for her arrest. While taking Sylvester into custody, she and Short became combative. Both were jailed with no bail set.
—Lindsey Fernandez, 32, of Delmar Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 2:50 a.m. Monday on two warrants for failure to appear on the charges of contempt of court and simple battery involving domestic violence. A deputy was dispatched to a local business to assist a Baldwin police officer with a suspicious vehicle complaint. The deputy made contact with the officer and a female in the suspicious vehicle, identified as Fernandez. Dispatch advised that Fernandez held active warrants for her arrest. She was jailed with no bail set.
—Travis Joseph Skeen, 30, of Aristile Road in Bayou L’Ourse, was arrested at 4:41 a.m. Monday on charges of possession of Schedule II controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Savanna White, 20, of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 4:41 a.m. Monday on charges of possession of Schedule II controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A deputy was traveling on U.S. 90 eastbound, taking the exit ramp onto Duhon Boulevard when he observed a vehicle cross over the grassy median. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, White, and two male passengers, one identified as Skeen. During the stop, drugs and drug paraphernalia were located. Skeen and White were jailed with no bail set.
Police Chief James F. Blair reported that the Morgan City Police Department responded to 99 calls for service and the following arrests were made:
—John May Jr., 29, of West Park Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:49 a.m. Friday on warrants for charges of possession with intent to distribute a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine) and prohibited acts Schedule II counterfeit controlled dangerous substance. May was arrested after being located in the Patterson Police Department and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking. The warrants stemmed from a Dec. 2018 investigation where May was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and counterfeit methamphetamine. He was jailed.
—Rebecca Martin, 47, of Terrebonne Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:10 a.m. Friday on warrants for the City Court of Morgan City on the charges of probation violation and contempt of court. Martin was arrested after an officer learned that she had warrants from City Court of Morgan City. She was jailed.
—Eric Frentz, 38, of Pecan Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 2:52 p.m. Friday on charges of no insurance and driving under suspension. An officer in the area of Pine Street noticed a vehicle with tail light blinking. The officer stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver identified as Frentz. Frentz was found to have a suspended driver’s license and the vehicle was not insured. He was jailed.
—Chris Sauce, 53, of La. 70 in Morgan City, was arrested at 5 a.m. Saturday on the charges of improper lane use, obstruction of a highway, resisting an officer by flight, possession of alcoholic beverages in a vehicle, and speeding. An officer on La. 70 noticed a vehicle cross over the center line several times while following behind him. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle at which time the driver refused. The officer continued to attempt to stop the driver who finally stopped after several miles. The officer, with the assistance of the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office, contacted the driver and placed him under arrest. The driver was found to have an open alcoholic beverage in his vehicle. He was jailed.
—Britten Businell, 36, of Wheelis Lane in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:49 a.m. Saturday on charges of possession of marijuana (less than 14 grams). An officer working an off-duty detail could smell an odor of burnt marijuana after a car pulled up. The officer spoke with the driver, Businelle, who admitted that he had marijuana in his vehicle. The suspected marijuana was recovered. He was jailed.
—Jewel Ross, 35, of North Verret Street in Amelia, was arrested at 2:04 a.m. Sunday on a warrant for a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Ross was arrested after an officer saw her walking on La. 182 and knew of outstanding warrants for her. She was jailed.
—Savana White, 20, of Aristle Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 3 a.m. Monday on warrants for the City Court of Morgan City for failure to appear on the charges of second offenses possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. White was arrested after being brought to the Morgan City Police Department for housing in the jail. White was found to have warrants from City Court of Morgan City for failure to appear. She was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief David Leonard Sr. reported the following arrests:
—Walter Fowler, 57, of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:40 p.m. Saturday on charges of simple battery. Officers were dispatched to a residence on Fifth Street in reference to a battery being committed on a juvenile. Officers spoke with subjects on scene and learned that Fowler had committed a battery on a juvenile at the residence. Fowler admitted that he shoved the juvenile after a disturbance over a cell phone. He was jailed with a $301 bond set and a hold was placed on him for an outstanding warrant through Morgan City Police Department.
—Raymond Rodriguez, 31, of Hulin Road in New Iberia, was arrested at 6:06 p.m. Sunday on charges of possession of marijuana and speeding 86/60 mph zone. Officers were in the area of U.S. 90 Bridge westbound when they observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Officers activated their radar and learned that the vehicle was traveling at 86 miles per hour in 60 miles per hour speed zone. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and the driver was identified as Rodriguez. Officers detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, Leonard said. Rodriguez admitted to officers that he had Marijuana in the vehicle and recovered it. He was jailed with no bond set.
Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reported the following arrest:
—Ryan Vaughn, 35, of La. 70 in Morgan City was arrested Thursday on charges of failure to appear in Assumption Parish for charges of simple burglary and theft of goods and a probation/parole violation. Vaughn was convicted of a felony in Assumption Parish and failed to abide by special conditions set forth in his probation/parole resulting in a parole warrant being issued. He was jailed with a $200 bond set and must face the probation/parole detainer afterwards.
Patterson Police Chief Garrett Grogan reported there were no arrests.
