What kind of office makes employees happy to come to work?
The office may no longer be the center of working life in quite the way it once was, but when people do go in, the environment matters more than ever.
A workplace is not just a desk and a meeting room. It shapes mood, energy, creativity, routine, and even how people feel about the job itself. A beautiful building, lively neighborhood, great views, walkable lunch spots, outdoor space, or simply a setting with a bit of character can turn the office from somewhere employees have to be into somewhere they might actually want to be.
The resume.io website surveyed 3,005 workers, asking them which company workplaces they would most like to work from if location were no object. Respondents were asked to base their choices strictly on the workplace itself, rather than salary, perks, company culture, or employer reputation.
Three Louisiana offices were among the top 150. Here’s what puts them at the top.
No. 36. Entergy HQ (New Orleans)
Entergy’s New Orleans headquarters brings the high-rise corporate version of Louisiana office envy. The company’s base at 639 Loyola Avenue gives it a serious downtown presence, and recent interior renovations have modernized key office floors with new finishes, upgraded systems, and more flexible meeting and conference space. It is not quirky in the way some creative offices are, but it has the scale, skyline address, and polished energy of a major utility company operating from the heart of the city.
No. 121. LABI HQ (Baton Rouge)
The Louisiana Association of Business and Industry’s Baton Rouge office is set inside an 1880s warehouse, the 15,000-square-foot workplace was designed to function as office, conference center, event hall, and gathering space. The result is warm, flexible, and full of Louisiana texture, with natural materials, industrial finishes, open work areas, private offices, a breakroom, and a multipurpose first floor that can shift from living-room-style meeting space to boardroom or banquet setup.

Lamar Advertising’s Baton Rouge headquarters has the kind of workplace story that suits the company perfectly. A former 1970s data center was reworked into a more open, creative headquarters, with courtyards, workstations, meeting rooms, a cafeteria, outdoor patio space, and a central “garden room” bringing daylight into what could easily have been a heavy, windowless building. For a company built around billboards and visibility, it feels fittingly inventive - a workplace that turns an overlooked structure into something with real presence.
“Remote and hybrid work have changed what employees expect from the office. If people are going to spend time commuting and working onsite, the experience has to offer something more than a desk and fluorescent lighting,” said Amanda Augustine, resident career expert for resume.io and a certified professional career coach.
“Beautiful buildings, great views, walkable neighborhoods, and thoughtfully designed spaces can certainly make the office feel more inviting and give employees something to look forward to. But employers shouldn’t assume attractive surroundings alone will entice people back. Many employees have grown accustomed to the flexibility and convenience of remote work, so organizations need to think more broadly about how they’re creating value through the office experience.
