St. Mary 4-H’ers attend Marsh Maneuvers in Cameron Parish

On July 22, three St. Mary Parish 4-H members traveled to Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge in Cameron Parish to meet other 4-H’ers from throughout Louisiana to take part in Marsh Maneuvers that were held July 22-26.
Marsh Maneuvers offer high school 4-H members an opportunity to learn about Louisiana’s coastal erosion challenges, the value of coastal marshes, the seafood industry and much more. Students catch their own food, explore the marsh via air boats and plant smooth cordgrass for a coastal stewardship project. Members also toured Avery Island, Jungle Gardens and had an oyster lesson at Shucks!.
St. Mary Parish participants were Chloe Morris from Hanson Memorial High School, Bryce Miguez from Centerville High School and Alexis Romero from West St. Mary High School.
