Kathy LaBouve named AARP Mother's Day Queen

The highlight of the St. Mary AARP Chapter 4435 meeting on May 7 was the selection and crowning of Kathy LaBouve as Mother’s Day Queen. LaBouve of Berwick was selected in a random drawing. St. Mary AARP board members Ann Lombardo, Alicia Robicheaux and President Faye Smith crowned LaBouve and presented her with a corsage from Town & Country Florist along with a check for $25.
Prior to the meeting at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center, home of St. Mary AARP, in Morgan City, attendees were entertained with dance music from 4 to 5:30 p.m., followed by bingo until 6:15 p.m.
The meeting and meal co-sponsors for May were Klutts Jewelers and Lonnie LaBouve, candidate for St. Mary Parish Sheriff.
Attendees were served a meal of spaghetti and meat sauce, candied carrots and salad. The meal was prepared by the cooking team of Mac and Myrt McNemar, and Pat Fryer.
Len Klutts, owner of Klutts Jewelers, spoke to the membership, explaining how honored he was to be a co-sponsor and thanked everyone for their continued support of his business.
Lonnie LaBouve addressed the membership to discuss his career with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, explaining his qualifications and asking for support in his run for office.
Also during the meeting, Smoothie King in Morgan City provided smoothie samples to the membership.
Birthday and anniversary celebrants were recognized with a cake donated by M C Bank.
The next St. Mary AARP meeting will be held on June 4 at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center.
