Girl Scouts set virtual recruitment events

NEW ORLEANS — Girl Scouts Louisiana East is currently offering opportunities for girls to join in-person and virtual troops across the council’s 23-parish footprint, including St. Mary and St. Martin parishes.
The council is hosting virtual recruitment events for girls and their parents to learn more about the unique experiences and opportunities provided to girls through Girl Scouts, the Girl Scouts Louisiana East news release states. A variety of recruitment activities are available on multiple dates and times to accommodate family schedules and the variety of school schedules this year due to the challenges of the pandemic.
Planned recruitment activities:
—Oct. 17: 10 a.m. — Robot Building Party.
—Oct. 20: 6 p.m. — Toy Business Designer Party.
—Oct. 24: 10 a.m. — Outdoor Art Party.
—Oct. 27: 6 p.m. — Be-You-Tiful Party.
The list of recruitment events will continue to be updated on the Girl Scouts Louisiana East website gsle.org/join and its Facebook page.
While the new troop year may look different, Girl Scouts Louisiana East wants to show girls and their families how amazing Girl Scouts is — even online, the news release states. Troop leaders across southeast Louisiana are equipped with Zoom licenses and are prepared to provide the traditional troop experience from the comfort of home.
Girls who participate virtually will still be able to earn badges, participate in engaging activities and even sell cookies to help raise troop funds for a variety of projects and endeavors.
Studies show that Girl Scouts earn better grades, have higher academic aspirations and desire to pursue careers in STEM, business, or law; industries in which women are underrepresented, according to the Girl Scout Impact Study, Girl Scouts Research Institute.
“We are excited for all the new ways girls can get involved with Girl Scouts this year and we look forward to welcoming new girl and adult members to our council despite the pandemic,” said Girl Scouts Louisiana East CEO Rebecca Pennington.
Girl Scouts serves girls in grades K-12. Annual membership is $25 and financial assistance is available.

Too busy for Girl Scouts? Girls can always join solo as Juliettes — or individually registered members. As an individual, girls participate in all Girl Scout activities that are age/grade level-appropriate, earn awards, sell cookies and much more.
