Girl Scout alums network on LinkedIn

NEW ORLEANS — Following the recent launch of The Girl Scout Network on LinkedIn, Girl Scouts Louisiana East is encouraging its alum to follow The Girl Scout Network page on LinkedIn to support female advancement in the workforce and help prepare girls for a lifetime of leadership and career success.
Girl Scouts of the USA and LinkedIn began this partnership to encourage alums to connect with one another to enhance their career development and to share their experience with the next generation, the Girl Scouts Louisiana East news release states. With more than 50 million Girl Scout alums in the organization, Girl Scouts also hopes that the formation of a network of like-minded women could effect change in the workforce by addressing issues such as unequal pay.
“Millions of girls already benefit from being a part of Girl Scouts and our programs. This new community on LinkedIn will offer support for female professionals in the same way,” said Jackie Alexander, Girl Scouts Louisiana East CEO. “We encourage anyone in southeast Louisiana who was ever a Daisy, Brownie, or higher in Girl Scouts to join— whether she participated for one year or went through to earn her Girl Scout Gold Award.”
The Girl Scout Network also shares new and relevant statistics about female leadership to inform and energize female professionals in their careers, along with offering inspiring personal stories from girls and alums as a way to help prepare girls to lead. Furthermore, the network provides a place for employers and human resource professionals to recruit women who possess skills crucial to career success.
Girl Scout alums include 80 percent of female tech leaders, 76 percent of current female U.S. Senators, 67 percent of current female U.S. Governors, and every female U.S. Secretary of State. In addition, more than half of women leaders in business are Girl Scout alums.
