Sydney Williams earns LSWA All-State Track and Field Team honors in the discus

Central Catholic High School was represented on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-State Track and Field Team as the Lady Eagles’ Sydney Williams made the list.
On the team, comprised of competitors in all classes, Williams was ranked No. 2 in the discus state wide with a throw of 130 feet, 4 inches. She achieved the personal record at the regional meet this year.
“For her to receive that honor is great. It’s a testament to what she’s done over her career, and hopefully she can continue that in college,” Central Catholic Coach David Fuhrer said.
Williams finished as Class 1A state runner-up in the discus at the state meet and will continue her career at Louisiana Tech as a preferred walk-on.
Baton Rouge High’s Logan Lewis had a state-best throw of 146 feet in the discus.
District 7-1A, which Central Catholic competed in this season, also was represented by Lafayette Christian Academy’s Bre’ Porter on the all-state team. Porter made the squad with the second-best throw in the state in the shot put with a heave of 42 feet, 8 inches.
District 8-3A, which Berwick and Patterson compete in, was represented on the girls’ and boys’ sides.
On the girls’ side, Kaplan’s Karlin Trahan was tied with two others for the second-best pole vault mark in the state with a leap of 11 feet, 5.75 inches.
On the boys’ side, Erath’s Jax Harrington had the state’s leading mark in the discus with a toss of 168 feet, 5 inches, while Kaplan’s Reginald Poole had the second-best high jump mark with a leap of 6 feet, 8 inches.
Harrington was named the state’s Outstanding Field Performer, while Sean Burrell of Zachary was selected the boys’ Outstanding Track Performer.
Lewis was named the girls’ Outstanding Field Performer, and Alia Armstrong of St. Katherine Drexel was named the Outstanding Track Performer.
