MCHS will face McDonogh 35 Thursday night

The Morgan City High School Tigers will begin Class 4A postseason play Thursday when it travels to New Orleans to face McDonogh No. 35 in Bi-district action set for a 7 p.m. start.
Morgan City enters the postseason as the No. 19 seed, while McDonogh No. 35 is the No. 14 seed.
First-year coach J.P. Piper said he has been happy with the team’s “progress and growth” this season.
“We’re getting better and better defensively each game. … I’m a little frustrated personally that we didn’t have a share of the district championship,” Piper said. “We came up a little short there, so as a coach, you are always second guessing maybe things you could have done to put us in a little better position to be a district champion, but I think all told it’s been a positive year for the guys.”
As for the Tigers’ first-round opponent, Piper said McDonogh 35 is “pretty comparable to us.”
Piper said the Roneagles are athletic and play hard. He said they will run down the court and will press.
“It’ll be quite a challenge,” he said. “They mirror us in a lot of ways in terms of they don’t have great size, but they’ve got good athleticism. Some guys that can shoot it. Some guys that finish it, and I think they play hard and they’re well coach, so It’ll be a challenge, but I like our team. I like our game plan, and that’s why you play the game. We’ll go see. We’ll go test them and see what we’re made of.”
