Franklin High, Westgate victorious in relays

The Franklin Hornets boys and the Westgate Lady Tigers emerged victorious in the annual Foster/Perry Relays Friday at J. C. Dry Stadium on the Albert Perry Track at the FSHS.
Franklin High Boys edged North West 130-129 to win the 2017 Foster/Perry Track and Field Competition.
Westgate finished third (118) followed by Highland Baptist, North Central, Patterson, J. C. Clark, West St. Mary, Morgan City, Northside, Jeanerette and Hanson.
The Westgate Lady Tigers won the Girls Division of this year’s Foster/Perry with 111 points with Northside placing second ahead of third place finisher Northwest. The Franklin Lady Hornets took fourth place with West St. Mary finishing in fifth place. The Morgan City Lady Tigers were sixth while J. C. Clark’s Girls were seventh. Highland Baptist was eighth with Patterson Lady Jills taking ninth place and Hanson Memorial’s Lady Tigers taking 10 place.
In the boys division, Franklin recorded eight victories in the meet. Franklin’s Roy Jackson won the discus (140-3); Dominique Henry won the triple jump (42-3 ½); Avontre Perro won both the 100 (10.89) and 200 meters (22.20) while Ervin Collins also finished as a double winner, breaking the tape in both the 110 yard hurdles (16.10) and the 300 yard hurdles (42.84).
Franklin’s speedy 4x100 foursome of Devynn Armstead, Dominique Henry, Malik King and Avontre Perro won this event with a 43.56 reading while the unit of Armstead, Perry, King and Isreal Washington posted a 1:31.19 to break the tape in the 4x200 meter relay.
Other top finishers for Franklin were: Roy Jackson, second, shot put, 43-07; Ervin Collins, second, 800, 2:14.74; 4X400 meter relay (Ervin Collins, Dominique Henry, Lavar Variet, Isreal Washington), second, 3:42.31; Elijah Spain, third, shot put, 41-03; Auston Gordon, third, javelin, 125-0; Isreal Washington, third, 400, 54.77; Devynn Armstead, third, 100, 11.18 and Elijah Spain, fifth, discus, 108-05.
Kharee Lockley finished tied for the runnerup spot in the 110 yard hurdles with Northwest’s Niles Pierre in the time of 16.26, leading the West St. Mary Wolfpack.
Other top finishers for the Wolfpack were: Kharee Lockley, fourth, 300-yard hurdles, 44.55; Wayne Armelin, fifth, 100, 11.27 and Terrell Joseph, sixth, 3200, 17:33.0.
