CCHS softball finishes 4-0 in its tournament

The Central Catholic Lady Eagles finished 4-0 at their tournament this weekend as they won two games Friday and two more Saturday.
Friday, Central Catholic defeated Highland Baptist, 8-2, and Franklin, 18-0, while Saturday, the Lady Eagles defeated Terrebonne, 18-2, and Assumption, 10-3.
Against Highland Baptist, the Lady Eagles scored three runs apiece in the first and fourth innings for a 6-0 lead.
While Highland Baptist scored a run apiece in the fifth and sixth innings, Central Catholic countered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin.
Haley Fontenot and Alanni Landry combined to limit Highland Baptist to just a hit. Fontenot earned the win. In five innings, she surrendered one earned run on one hit with five walks and fanned eight. Landry pitched two innings of relief and surrendered one walk. She fanned two.
Hallie Autin and Alaysia Williams led the Lady Eagles, offensively. Autin finished 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs, a stolen base and three runs, while Williams was 1-for-3 with a home run, an RBI and a run. Other top Central Catholic offensive contributors included Fontenot, 2-for-2, a stolen base; and Taylor Picou, 1-for-2, two RBIs.
Against Franklin, Central Catholic scored 14 runs in the bottom of the first and four more in the bottom of the second. The game was called in the third due to the mercy rule. Sara Thomas and Julianna Hernandez combined to surrender just on hit for Central Catholic’s pitching. Thomas earned the win as she surrendered no hits and fanned two in one inning. Hernandez pitched the remaining two innings and surrendered one hit but struck out four.
Offensively, Rachel Rogers led Central Catholic with a 2-for-2 performance with an RBI and two runs. Other top offensive contributors for Central Catholic included Picou and Kelly Russo, each 1-for-1, with an RBI, a stolen base and a run; and Landry, 1-for-2, an RBI.
Against Terrebonne, Central Catholic won the contest via mercy rule in three innings.
The Lady Eagles scored four runs in the first, 12 in the second and two more in the third.
Terrebonne scored its lone runs in the bottom of the third.
Fontenot and Thomas combined to limit Terrebonne to just one hit. Fontenot earned the win as she pitched an inning and fanned one. Thomas pitched the remaining two innings and surrendered one earned run on one hit with one walk and fanned two.
Central Catholic had 10 hits. Autin led the squad with a 2-for-3 performance with three RBIs, one stolen base and four runs. Other top Central Catholic offensive contributors included Picou, 2-for-3, two RBIs, two stolen bases and three runs; Emma Aucoin, 1-for-2, a double, two RBIs, two stolen bases and four runs; Brooke Lipari, 1-for-1, an RBI, a stolen base and two runs; Russo, 1-for-2, an RBI and a run; Bailee Lipari, 1-for-3, two RBIs and a run; and Kaleigh Navarro, 1-for-2, an RBI.
Against Assumption, Central Catholic scored four runs in the third, four in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Assumption scored a run apiece in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
Fontenot earned the win. In a complete-game effort, she surrendered three earned runs on 10 hits with one walk.
Offensively, Central Catholic pounded out 12 hits.
Russo and Aucoin led Central Catholic offensively. Russo was 3-for4 with a stolen base and a run, while Aucoin was 3-for-4 with two runs. Other top offensive contributors for Central Catholic included Autin, 2-for-3, two runs; Brooke Lipari, 1-for-3, a triple, two RBIs and two runs; Navarro, 1-for-3, a double and two RBIs; Williams, 1-for-3, two RBIs and two runs; and Fontenot, 1-for-4, an RBI.
Central Catholic (12-2) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Lafayette Christian Academy in District 7-1A action First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
Berwick finishes 1-2 at CCHS tournament
The Berwick Lady Panthers finished 1-2 at Central Catholic’s tournament this weekend as it defeated Terrebonne but fell to Assumption and South Terrebonne.
Berwick fell 9-2 to Assumption, defeated Terrebonne, 12-10; and f e l l t o S o u t h Terrebonne, 7-4.
Against Assumption, Berwick fell behind 7-0 after four innings as Assumption scored four runs in the first, three in the third and another in the fourth.
Berwick scored two runs in the top of the sixth, but Assumption scored a run in the bottom of the inning.
Assumption outhit Berwick, 15-6. M a r y J o r d a n Melancon led Berwick with a 2-for-3 performance with a double. Other top Berwick offensive contributors included Sydney Aucoin, 2-for-3, an RBI; Jordan Lipari, 1-for-3, a double, a stolen base and a run; and Madison Carline, 1-for-3, an RBI.
Lipari suffered the loss. In three innings, she surrendered seven runs (all earned) on 10 hits and fanned two.
Against Terrebonne, both teams scored a run in the first inning before Terrebonne added four runs in the second and one in the fourth for a 6-1 lead.
However, Berwick erupted for 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth for an 11-6 lead.
Terrebonne cut its deficit to 11-8 in the top of the sixth, but Berwick scored a run in the bottom of the frame.
Terrebonne scored its final two runs in the top of the seventh.
Terrebonne outhit B e r w i c k , 1 3 - 3 . However, Berwick walked eight times, Terrebonne committed five errors and three Lady Panthers reached base after being hit by a pitch.
Lipari led Berwick with a 2-for-2 performance with a double, three RBIs, a stolen base and a run. Other top offensive contributors for Berwick included Hannah Beadle, an RBI and two runs; and Melancon, Morgan Toups and Hannah Henry, an RBI and a run apiece.
Lipari earned the win. In five innings, she surrendered nine runs (eight earned) on 10 hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Against South Terrebonne, the Lady Gators took a 4-0 lead after two innings, and while Berwick cut its deficit to 4-2 in the top of the third, South Terrebonne countered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 7-2 advantage.
Berwick cut its deficit to 7-4 in the top of the fifth but could get no closer.
South Terrebonne outhit Berwick, 11-5, while Berwick committed five errors to South Terrebonne’s two miscues.
Emma Hover led Berwick with a 3-for-4 performance with a stolen base and two runs. Other top offensive contributors included Lipari, 2-for-4, two RBIs and a stolen base, and Jaci Arnold and Carline, an RBI apiece.
Lipari suffered the loss. In 4.1 innings, she surrendered seven runs (two earned) on 10 hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
Berwick (6-6) will return to action Tuesday when it resumes District 8-3A action at Patterson. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
MCHS finishes 2-1 at St. Amant’s tourney Morgan City High School’s softball team finished 2-1 at St. Amant’s tournament this weekend as the squad defeated East A s c e n s i o n a n d Destrehan but fell to Denham Springs.
Friday, Morgan City fell to Denham Springs, 4-1, while Saturday, the squad rebounded with a 12-1 win against East Ascension in four innings and 3-2 win against Destrehan.
Against Denham Springs, Morgan City fell behind 4-0 after two innings.
Morgan City scored a run in the bottom of the third but could get no closer.
Each team had four hits.
Morgan City's Scottie Metrejean, McKenzi Smith and Madalyn Hebert each finished 1-for-3, while Gracie Verrett was 1-for-4 for the Lady Tigers. Drew Angeron scored Morgan City's lone run.
Kennedy Hebert suffered the loss. In seven innings, she surrendered four runs (one earned) on four hits with two walks and fanned six. She hit two batters.
A g a i n s t E a s t Ascension, Morgan City broke open a 1-all game with 12 unanswered runs combined in the third through fifth innings. Morgan City scored three runs in the third and four each in the fourth and fifth frames.
Morgan City outhit East Ascension, 10-2, while East Ascension committed four errors to Morgan City’s two miscues.
Smith and Kennedy Hebert led Morgan City offensively. Smith was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Kennedy Hebert was 2-for-3 with two triples, an RBI and four runs. Other top Morgan City offensive contributors included Verrett, 1-for-3, a double, five RBIs and two runs; Matti Rivere, 1-for-3, a double, three RBIs and a run; and Reilee Bailey, an RBI.
Kennedy Hebert earned the win. In five innings, she surrendered one run (none earned) on two hits with one walk and fanned 10.
Against Destrehan, Morgan City rallied with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings for the win.
While Destrehan took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth, Morgan City countered with a run in the bottom of the frame.
The score remained the same until Morgan City scored a run each in its last two at bats.
Destrehan outhit Morgan City, 5-3, while Morgan City committed three miscues to Destrehan’s two errors.
Allie Vincent led Morgan City with a 1-for-2 performance. Other top offensive contributors for Morgan City included Smith, 1-for-3, two runs; Metrejean, 1-for3; and Madalyn Hebert and Rivere, an RBI apiece.
Kennedy Hebert earned the win. In seven innings, she surrendered two runs (none earned) on five hits with one walk and fanned 14.
Morgan City (12-2) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face South Terrebonne in District 7-4A action. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
Patterson finishes 2-2 at CCHS' tourney
The Patterson Lumberjills finished 2-2 at Central Catholic’s tournament this weekend as they defeated West St. Mary and Houma Christian but fell to Highland Baptist and South Terrebonne.
F r i d a y, S o u t h Terrebonne defeated Patterson, 15-3, while Highland Baptist edged Patterson, 9-8. Saturday, Patterson defeated West St. Mary, 15-0, and Houma Christian, 11-1.
No individual stats were available from these games.
Patterson (6-9) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Berwick in District 8-3A action. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
