Berwick wins in rout behind 13-run inning

Trailing 4-1, the Berwick Panthers erupted for 13 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 14-1 run-rule win against Central Lafourche in high school baseball action in Berwick Wednesday.
While each team had done all of its previous scoring in the second inning with Central Lafourche taking a 4-1 lead, Berwick had its big inning and ended the game in the bottom of the fifth.
Berwick outhit Central Lafourche 9-4, and the Panthers overcame three errors.
Zeph Hoffpauir led Berwick with a 2-for-2 performance with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs. Other top Berwick offensive contributors included Cameron Wiley, 2-for-4, a double, two RBIs and two runs; Bradley Gray, 2-for-4, an RBI and two runs; Lucas Hatch, 1-for-2, two RBIs; Seth Giroir, 1-for-2, an RBI and a run; and Cody Roberie, 1-for-3, an RBI and a run.
Grant Oubre earned the complete-game victory. In five innings, he surrendered four runs (one earned) on four hits with two walks and fanned six.
Berwick (9-1) will return to action at Chalmette’s tournament, which runs through Saturday
