Berwick opens district with 7-1 win against Erath

Berwick High School defeated Erath, 7-1, in District 8-3A action in Berwick Thursday.
Berwick scored all of its runs in two innings as the squad plated four runs in the bottom of the third and three more in the bottom of the sixth for a 7-0 lead.
Erath scored its lone run in the top of the seventh.
Jordan Lipari earned the complete-game victory. In seven innings, she surrendered an unearned run on five hits with one walk and fanned two.
Offensively, Morgan Toups led Berwick with a 3-for-4 performance with two RBIs, while Hannah Henry was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Other top offensive contributors for Berwick included Jordan Lipari, 2-for-4, two runs and a stolen base; Jaci Arnold, 1-for-3, an RBI and two runs; Madison Carline, 1-for-4, an RBI and a run; and Mary Jordan Melancon, 1-for-4, an RBI.
Berwick (5-4 overall, 1-0 in district) will return to action this weekend when it participates in Central Catholic’s tournament. Friday, the Lady Panthers will face Assumption at 3 p.m. and Terrebonne at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Berwick will play South Terrebonne at 10:45 a.m.
CCHS routs Centerville
The Central Catholic Lady Eagles run-ruled Centerville, 17-2, in four innings Thursday in Bayou Vista.
Central Catholic scored in every inning as it plated four runs in the first, five in the second, three in the third and five in the fourth.
Centerville scored its two runs in the first inning.
Central Catholic pounded out 17 hits, led by Hallie Autin’s 3-for-3 performance with a double, two home runs, eight RBIs, two stolen bases and four runs. Other top offensive contributors included Brooke Lipari, 3-for-3, a double, a stolen base and two runs; Alaysia Williams, 2-for-3, a triple and two runs; Emma Aucoin, 2-for-3, two stolen bases and three runs; Katie Navarro, 1-for-1, two RBIs; and Kaleigh Navarro, 1-for-2, two RBIs.
Sara Thomas earned the win. In four innings, she surrendered two earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts.
Central Catholic (8-2 overall, 2-0 in district) will return to action this weekend when it competes in its tournament. Friday, the Lady Eagles will face Highland Baptist at 3 p.m. and Franklin at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Central Catholic will play Terrebonne at 9 a.m. and Assumption at 12:30 p.m.
Morgan City run-rules Ellender
The Morgan City Lady Tigers run-ruled Ellender, 14-2, in five innings in District 7-4A action in Morgan City Thursday.
While Ellender took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Morgan City countered with seven runs in the bottom of the frame and added two more in the third for a 9-1 lead. Ellender scored a run in the top of the fourth, but Morgan City responded with five runs in the bottom of the fourth for the eventual win.
Morgan City outhit Ellender, 14-2. Ellender committed four errors to Morgan City’s three miscues.
Kennedy Hebert led Morgan City’s offense with a 3-for-3 performance with three RBIs, a stolen base and three runs. Other top offensive contributors included Scottie Metrejean, 2-for-4, a double and four RBIs; Madalyn Hebert, 2-for-3, a double, an RBI, a stolen base and a run; Dru Gros, 2-for-3, two RBIs and two runs; Allie Vincent, 1-for-2, an RBI, a stolen base and two runs; Drew Angeron, 1-for-2, two RBIs; and Hallie Blanchard, an RBI and a run.
Kennedy Hebert earned the win. In three innings, she surrendered one run (unearned) on one hit with seven strikeouts.
Blanchard pitched two innings of relief and surrendered one run (unearned) on one hit with two walks and fanned two.
Morgan City (10-1, 1-0) will return to action this weekend when it participates in St. Amant’s tournament. Morgan City will face Denham Springs Friday at 3:30 p.m., while on Saturday, Morgan City will play East Ascension at 9 a.m. and Destrehan at 11 a.m.
Patterson falls to Kaplan
The Patterson Lumberjills dropped their District 8-3A opener at Kaplan, 16-1, Thursday.
Earlier this week on Monday, the Lumberjills defeated Covenant Christian, 15-8.
No individual statistics were available from either game.
Patterson (4-7, 0-1) will return to action this weekend when it participates in Central Catholic’s tournament. Friday, Patterson will face South Terrebonne at 4:45 p.m. and Highland Baptist at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Patterson will meet West St. Mary at 10:45 a.m. and Houma Christian at 12:30 p.m.
