Man suspected to have made cocaine at home

A 30-year-old Verdunville man was charged Saturday with manufacturing cocaine among several other drug charges after narcotics detectives searched a home, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Courtney D. Charles, 30, of Prairie Road in Verdunville, was arrested at 12:23 a.m. Saturday on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of MDMA, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, manufacturing of cocaine, possession of Xanax, possession of drug paraphernalia, transactions involving drug proceeds and violation of a controlled dangerous substance law-drug free zone.
Sheriff’s office narcotics detectives and Morgan City police officers conducted a search warrant at the address listed above. Detectives found marijuana, MDMA pills, cocaine, Xanax pills and $498 in cash. Detectives also located measuring cups and other items containing cocaine residue. There is a church within 2,000 feet of the home. Charles was jailed with no bail set.
Hebert reported responding to 122 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Ashton R. Pugh, 59, of Victoria Riverside Road in Patterson, was arrested at 6:24 p.m. Sunday on a charge of attempted carjacking.
A deputy responded to a report of a disturbance at a business on U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista. The deputy collected evidence that Pugh approached a female victim in her car and took her car keys from the ignition. The deputy learned that Pugh had previously signed the car over to the victim and that the two were acquaintances. Pugh was jailed with no bail set.
—Donna Reed, 46, of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 11:35 a.m. Friday on warrants for failure to appear on the charge of possession of clonazepam with intent to distribute, failure to appear on the charges of hit and run driving, suspended driver’s license, following too closely, no insurance, and no proof of registration, failure to appear on the charges of suspended driver’s license and expired license plate, a Morgan City police warrant for probation violation and Berwick police warrants for theft and criminal trespassing.
A deputy made contact with Reed at her home and located the active warrants for her arrest. Reed was jailed with no bail set.
—Samantha Pavlick, 24, of La. 182 in Centerville, was arrested at 8:30 a.m. Friday on a warrant charging her with felony theft.
On Nov. 2, 2016, a detective began an investigation into a reported theft from a business in Amelia. The detective documented evidence that Pavlick, a former employee of the business, wrote checks on the company bank account and deposited about $26,000 into her personal account.
Pavlick came to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City in reference to the investigation and was subsequently taken into custody on the warrant. She was booked into jail and released on $2,500 bail.
—Ryan Ledet, 24, of Lillian Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 12:43 a.m. Saturday on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, headlights required, careless operation and expired driver’s license.
A deputy assigned to patrol Amelia observed a pick-up truck traveling on Lake Palourde Road with only one working headlight and initiated a traffic stop. The deputy observed the vehicle cross the centerline, drive on the opposite side of the road, travel back across the centerline, drive off the roadway, into a ditch, and back onto the roadway before coming to a stop in a parking lot.
When the driver, Ledet, exited the truck, the deputy observed signs of impairment and smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Ledet. A standardized field sobriety test was conducted. Ledet performed the test poorly. He later registered 0.295 grams-percent blood alcohol concentration on a breath test and was booked into jail. Ledet was released after posting $7,000 bail.
—Andrea Alleman, 43, of Verret Street in Amelia, was arrested at 9:35 a.m. Sunday on a charge of theft of goods. A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in bayou Vista.
The deputy collected evidence that Alleman attempted to return items to the store that she took from store shelves. The deputy also found that Alleman attempted to leave the store with several items without paying for the goods. Alleman was released on a summons to appear in court June 13.
—Dion Maize, 24, of Morgan City, was additionally charged at 2:39 p.m. Sunday on a charge of criminal damage to property.
Maize, an inmate at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, damaged a window in a dorm of the facility. Maize remains incarcerated.
—Phillip Begnaud, 33, of La. 182 in Patterson, was arrested on at 12:31 a.m. Monday on charges of bicycle equipment required and resisting an officer. A deputy observed a man riding a bicycle at night with no lights or reflectors on the shoulder of U.S. 90 in Calumet.
The deputy stopped the man. The subject repeatedly refused to give the deputy his name. The subject was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. A correctional officer identified the man as Begnaud. Bail is set at $2,750.
—Anthony James, 31, of La. 83 in Baldwin, was arrested at 2:42 p.m. Sunday on charges of improper lane usage, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and transactions involving drug proceeds.
A uniformed patrol deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on U.S. 90 in Patterson after observing the driver cross the centerline and fog line several times. The deputy identified the driver as James and smelled the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
During a search of the car, the deputy located a handgun, $765 in cash, and a glass jar containing 11 bags of marijuana. The deputy then turned the investigation over to narcotics detectives who learned that James was a convicted felon. James was jailed with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Harvey J. Morgan, 35, of Rose Park Lane in Morgan City, arrested at 12:02 p.m. Friday on warrants charging him with possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana second offense and red light violation.
Police located Morgan and arrested him in the area of Railroad Avenue on warrants. The warrants stem from an investigation conducted by narcotic investigators in January where a vehicle was observed running a red light in the area of La 182.
Investigators initiated a traffic stop and Morgan was identified as the driver. Morgan, who was allegedly acting suspicious, granted investigators permission to search the vehicle, and they found suspected methamphetamine and marijuana.
The suspected narcotics were seized and sent to the crime lab pending analysis and an arrest warrant secured. Morgan was jailed.
—William J. Roberson, 55, of North Everett Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:39 p.m. Friday on warrants charging him with simple burglary, criminal damage to coin-operated device and possession of burglary tools.
Roberson was located and arrested in the area of South Railroad Avenue on a warrant. The warrant stems from an October 2015 investigation involving an alleged vending machine that had been burglarized at a local business. Roberson was identified a suspect and an arrest warrant was prepared for his arrest. Roberson was jailed.
—Donna S. Reed, 45, of Saturn Road in Morgan City, arrested at 7:15 p.m. Friday on warrants charging her with probation violation and failure to appear for court on 04/05/2016, a Berwick police warrants charging her with criminal trespassing and theft. Reed was located at the Morgan City Police Department and arrested her on warrants. Reed was jailed.
—Katie J. Robinson, 50, of Marshall Street in Morgan City, arrested at 8:10 p.m. Friday on charges of DWI first offense, careless operation and driver’s license not on person.
Patrolling officers observed a vehicle driving erratically in the area of Second Street. Officers conducted a stop on the vehicle, and Robinson was identified as the driver. Police detected an odor of alcoholic emitting from Robinson.
Robinson performed poorly on a field sobriety test, police said. Robinson was taken to jail for chemical testing. Robinson registered 0.112 grams-percent blood alcohol content. Robinson was jailed.
—Michael D. Thompson Jr., 22, of Sixth Street in Morgan City, arrested at 10 a.m. Saturday on a charge of reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
Patrolling officers observed a vehicle in the area of Fig Street traveling at a high rate of speed. Officers attempted to apprehend the vehicle but were unable to do so due to the vehicle’s speed of travel. Officers observed the vehicle at one point spinning the tires causing smoke.
The vehicle pulled into Lake End Park, and police stopped the vehicle. Thompson was identified as the driver. Thompson was jailed.
—Davida Bias, 33, of Fourth Street in Berwick, arrested at 2:11 p.m. Saturday on a charge of theft by shoplifting.
Officers responded to a complaint of an alleged shoplifter at a local business on La 182. Officers arrived and spoke with management, and Bias was identified as a suspect.
Police were advised that Bias had gone into the business and placed an order for some seafood and requested that it was packaged a particular way. Bias was given the order and seen later in the business without the order she had placed.
She was observed entering the restroom area and upon exiting that was area was check and the merchandise, valued at $25.78, was located. Bias allegedly admitted that she was attempting to steal the items. Bias was jailed.
—Donald J. Lewis Jr., 41, of Fourth Street in Morgan City, arrested at 9:06 a.m. Sunday on charges of possession of marijuana, violation of a uniform controlled dangerous substance law-drug free zone and no seat belt.
Patrolling officers observed a vehicle in the area of Ditch Avenue, and the driver was seen operating without the use of a seat belt. Police stopped the vehicle, and Lewis was identified as the driver.
During the stop, Lewis was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana. The area where the incident took place was found to be within a drug-free zone. Lewis was jailed.
—Jamone D. Jones, 25, of Marshall Street in Morgan City, arrested at 10:51 a.m. Sunday on a warrant charging him with three counts of failure to appear for arraignment.
Jones was located and arrested on city court warrants on original charges of possession of marijuana, driving under suspension and failure to use a turn signal. Jones was jailed.
—James M.E. Haydel, 31, of Market Street in Raceland, arrested at 1:55 p.m. Sunday on Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office warrants charging him with domestic abuse battery second offense and failure to appear for court on a charge of child support and an Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant for failure to appear for court on a charge of simple assault.
Patrolling officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a red light violation. During the stop, Haydel was identified as a passenger. Officers learned that Haydel held multiple active arrest warrants through two jurisdictions. Haydel was jailed.
—Wesley R. Chappelle, 54, of Emy Lane in Patterson, arrested at 8:38 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for failure to pay a fine. Chappelle was located and arrested in the area of Mount Street on warrants. Chappelle was jailed.
—Mark Broussard Jr., 27, of Vivian Street in Morgan City, arrested at 12:45 a.m. Monday on a warrant charging him with second-degree battery and a Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant charging him with probation violation.
Broussard was located in the area of North First Street arrested on warrants. The Morgan City police warrant stems from a September 2013 investigation in which Broussard was involved in an altercation. The victim allegedly suffered injuries that required medical attention. Broussard was jailed.
—Jovian Clark, 35, of Friendship Alley in Amelia, arrested at 1:45 a.m. Monday on warrants charging him with simple assault and criminal trespassing
Clark was located and arrested at the police department on warrants. The warrants stem from an October 2016 investigation in regard to an alleged assault. The complaint occurred on Morgan City Housing Authority property, and Clark had been barred when the alleged incident occurred. Clark was jailed.

—Ta Mario Quientin Ulmer, 25, of Glenwood Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 2 p.m. Friday on charges of aggravated assault, criminal damage to property and discharging a firearm in the city limits. No bail is set yet.
—Devontae Derrick Blackman, 21, of Glenwood Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 2 p.m. Friday on charges of principal to aggravated assault and aggravated criminal damage to property. No bail is set yet.
—Devin Andrew, 21, of Glenwood Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 2 p.m. Friday on charges of principal to aggravated assault and aggravated criminal damage to property. No bail is set yet.
—Crystal Rebekah Bourgeois, 34, of Lee Street in Franklin, was arrested at 10:15 p.m. Sunday on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and on a warrant charging her with issuing worthless checks. No bail is set yet.
—Ericka Vidos Pederson, 36, of Domino Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 10:15 p.m. Sunday on a charge of driving under suspension. Pederson posted $359 cash bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
