Red beats White in Louisiana spring game

Jordan Davis completed 11 of 14 passes for 174 yards and a touchdown, while Jordan Wright, Trey Ragas and Dion Ray each scored rushing touchdowns to lead the Red team to a 28-7 win against the White in the annual Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Red-White Spring Game Saturday at Cajun Field.
Jarrod Jackson, playing for the White team, caught a game-high four passes for 50 yards and a touchdown as the teams played a half before former Ragin’ Cajuns greats, which included former quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Michael Desormeaux, participated in an Alumni Game in the second half.
Davis completed his first nine passes and gave the Red team an early 7-0 lead when he hit Ryheem Malone on a 52-yard scoring pass. The Southern Methodist transfer hauled in the pass along the right sideline for the Red before crossing the field and outrunning the defense to the end zone.
After forcing the White team to punt on its next possession, the Red team scored for a 14-0 lead when Ragas, a redshirt freshman, scored around the left side on a 6-yard touchdown run.
Wright added a 3-yard touchdown run in the second quarter for the Red before Ray added a 3-yard touchdown run for a 28-0 lead.
Redshirt freshman Jake Arceneaux, who went 4-for-9 for 80 yards, engineered the lone scoring drive for the White team as he connected with Calif Gossett for a key 39-yard grab down the right sideline before hitting Jackson with a 24-yard scoring pass three plays later.
Morgan City High School alum Darryl Johnson and Central Catholic High alum Tanner Wiggins are members of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette football team, too.
The scrimmage also had a special moment as 14-year-old Timothy Cotton, a Stage 3 lymphoma survivor and the son of late Ragin’ Cajuns running back Kenyon Cotton, scored on a designed 50-yard touchdown run to start the second quarter.
