(Updated) 14-year-old boy arrested on 8 charges following vehicle chase

A 14-year-old boy was taken into custody Tuesday morning following a vehicle pursuit that ended in the area of Red Cypress Road in Patterson, according to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's deputies assisted Patterson police officers with the vehicle pursuit. The incident was turned over to the Patterson Police Department.

Patterson police charged the juvenile with theft of a motor vehicle, flight from an officer, simple criminal damage to property, reckless operation with an accident, leaving the scene of an accident, no driver's license, curfew violation and stop sign violation. He was released to his mother.

No injuries were reported during the incident. The suspect was caught shortly after allegedly fleeing on foot in the Red Cypress Road area following the vehicle chase. The incident is still under investigation.
