Lutcher ends Berwick's championship chase, wins 5-4
Lutcher edges Berwick in Class 3A championship game
Brock Louque's grand slam homer in the third was the big blow as Lutcher downed Berwick 5-4 in the Class 3A state championship game Saturday in Sulphur.
Lutcher first
Louque's bases-loaded single put Lutcher ahead of Berwick 1-0.
Lutcher got to Berwick starter Mason Johnston for a pair of walks and a single to set up Louque's RBI. Johnston settled down to end the threat with a strikeout.
Berwick first
Clay Menard led off the inning a single, but was later caught in a rundown for the third out.
Lutcher second
Johnston sets Lutcher down in order, striking out two. 1-0 Lutcher
Berwick second
Zach Gonzalez singled and was out at second on Crew Bella's fielder's choice. Carter Williams walked, and Bella stole third.
Bella scored on a wild pick-off throw. Jude Vasquez doubled home Williams, and Johnston slapped an RBI double.
