LOGA praises decision on carbon capture

The head of the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association called a recent Environmental Protection action on governance of some injection wells as “a huge victory for Louisiana.”
The EPA approved Louisiana’s application for primary over Class VI injection wells. That class is defined by the EPA as wells used to inject carbon dioxide into deep rock formations.
“The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources and the Louisiana Office of Conservation worked tirelessly over the last 2+ years with the EPA to ensure that Louisiana’s permitting process met or exceeded EPA’s standards,” LOGA President Mike Moncla said in a press release.
“The Office of Conservation is uniquely qualified to implement this process, with its extensive knowledge of the state’s geology and its multiple decades of experience working safely with CO2 injection wells and facilities.”
Louisiana now stands at the forefront of CCU [carbon capture], Moncla said.
“LOGA and its members look forward to taking advantage of the tremendous opportunities this presents the state and its workforce,” Moncla said.
