Tropical disturbance eyed by Coast Guard

While it is unclear where the disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico is headed, it appears the area will receive a substantial amount of rain, a U.S. Coast Guard representative told the Morgan City Harbor and Terminal District during its monthly meeting Monday.
Lt. Cmdr. Zach Robertson of Marine Safety Unit-Morgan City said it appears it will “be a big raining event.”
As of 7 a.m. Tuesday, the National Weather Service in Lake Charles said the National Hurricane Center pegged the chance of the disturbance forming into a tropical cyclone at 70%. The National Hurricane Center said the disturbance could be a tropical depression by week’s end.
In addition to rain, higher tides are expected to begin Friday and last for the weekend, the National Weather Service reported.
