Norwood will run for world 400-meter title

Vernon “Tootie” Norwood, the Morgan City High grad who brought home two medals from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, will compete for the 400 meters title Thursday in the World Track and Field Championships in Budapest.

Norwood ran a personal best 44.26 in his semifinal heat Sunday, finishing second. He trailed Matthew Hudson-Smith of Great Britain by five-thousandths of a second.

Norwood and Hudson-Smith will meet again in the finals at 2:35 p.m. CDT Thursday. The field of eight also includes two men with sub-44-second personal bests: Wayde Niekerk of South Africa (43.08) and Kirani James of Grenada (43.74).

The race will be aired on NBCSports.com and NBC’s streaming service, Peacock.
